Rudai 10: Facebook
A group I have joined and
followed for a while now has been Future Ready Librarians which I joined as it
looked interesting and popped up as a suggested link.
It is linked to the Future Ready
website which is promoting how librarians can be a part of the future ready
schools programme in the USA.
I joined as a thought this may be
an avenue for me to go down in my school library, especially with online and
information handling and seeking skills being a high priority at school. The Facebook
group has turned out to be perhaps not as useful for moving towards that goal as i originally thought, but has proved to be a brilliant space to discuss library related questions and
queries and ask for help and ideas. Also, folks in the group are rather good at
sharing visuals for displays for which I have gained many an idea! It’s good to
be able to offer advice on questions fellow librarians are asking and also to
read other people’s suggestions – there is always something new to learn. One
of the few downsides though is that most of the group are in American libraries,
so somethings like LMS, suppliers etc are not relevant. This though has been
fascinating to see how my counterparts in American school libraries operate and
are organised e.g. being teacher librarians and seeing some of their key
directions like the development of Maker Spaces in their libraries. This is
surely just a matter of time before it takes off over here and I’m aware now of
what this is all about. While I haven’t been brave enough to post a question
yet, I’m really enjoying the interaction with this Facebook group, and getting
to see how another countries school libraries operate. The group currently has over
14000 followers, so varied views, opinions and suggestions are guaranteed!
